Our goal is to provide you with great insights into the heritage and values of the Ashtanga method, and we also focus on a caring and individualized approach to help you connect deeply with yourself and navigate life's challenges.

The Method

Ashtanga Yoga is a traditional system of yoga rooted in the teachings of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and based on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. The method is structured around a progressive sequence of postures linked with breath (vinyasa), internal locks (bandha), and a steady point of focus (drishti).

The physical practice is traditionally organized into six series: the Primary Series, which emphasizes alignment, strength, and flexibility; the Intermediate Series, which works more deeply on the nervous system; and four Advanced Series that require a high level of strength, stability, and sensitivity.

While the asana practice is a central part of Ashtanga Yoga, it represents only one aspect of the method. Breath control, ethical principles, concentration, and meditation are equally important elements, supporting a practice that extends beyond the mat into daily life.

Primary Series (Yoga Chikitsa)

It is a structured sequence of postures designed to build strength, flexibility, and stability while supporting overall health. The practice focuses on developing a steady breath, improving posture, and gently cleansing and balancing the body through consistent movement.

The Primary Series helps practitioners establish the foundations of Ashtanga Yoga by cultivating awareness, discipline, and coordination between breath and movement. It is often described as therapeutic, as it supports physical well-being while creating the basis for deeper practice over time

Intermediate Series (Nadi Shodhana)

Nadi Shodhana, known as the Intermediate Series of Ashtanga Yoga, builds on the foundations of the Primary Series by developing greater strength, flexibility, and control. The practice places more emphasis on backbends, twists, and arm balances, encouraging stability, openness, and confidence in movement.

The series is traditionally described as cleansing and balancing the nervous system. Through consistent practice, it supports deeper awareness of breath, concentration, and inner steadiness, while continuing to strengthen the connection between body and mind.

Advanced A, B, C and D (Sthira Bhaga)

The Advanced Series of Ashtanga Yoga, known as Sthira Bhaga, represents the later stages of the method and is traditionally practiced after many years of consistent study. These sequences require a high level of strength, flexibility, balance, and sensitivity, combining demanding postures with precise breath and focused attention.

The Advanced Series emphasizes steadiness, lightness, and integration, inviting the practitioner to refine awareness and maintain calm concentration even in challenging situations. As with all series in Ashtanga Yoga, the physical practice supports deeper aspects of the method, including discipline, focus, and inner clarity.

Led Practice
In a Led class, the teacher guides the whole group through the Ashtanga sequence, step by step. Everyone moves together, following the instructions and timing of the teacher. This is a great way to learn the flow and alignment of the series, especially if you’re newer to Ashtanga.

Mysore Practice
Mysore style is self-paced and individualized. Each student practices their own sequence while the teacher gives personal adjustments and guidance as needed. This allows students to progress at their own speed and receive support for their specific level and needs.
